Highlights of discussions and action taken by commissioners at the regular July 23 regular meeting included:
- Voting to leave the burn ban off at the recommendation of Caldwell County’s Office of Emergency Management. The average KBDI, which measures drought conditions, for Caldwell County is 323 — more than 200 points below the threshold the metric for drought conditions. Residents are reminded to burn only natural brush.

During announcements, the Caldwell County judge and district attorney each made announcements pertaining to pre-sale agreements involving individual landowners and a land acquisition company for potential data centers.

Approved the revised Caldwell County Emergency Management Basic plan that designates the Caldwell County Community and Evacuation Center as the primary evacuee lodging facility for the area. The plan prohibits pets as required by the General Land Office grant that funded construction of the center but allows service animals for individuals with disabilities. In the event of a situation requiring shelter and mass care, animals would be taken in at the Luling Animal Welfare Society.

Approved an approximately $44 million proposed budget for FY 2026-2027. Commissioners will vote to formally approve the proposed budget at a public meeting held before Sept. 30, the last day of the current fiscal year.

Approved elected officials’ salaries for FY 2026-2027. Officials will receive a 3% cost of living adjustment.
- Appointed Tommy Yankovoy to the ESD No. 3 Board to fill the unexpired term of Commissioner David Murdoch, who moved out of state and resigned.
