Caldwell County Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing Feb. 22, 2026 as George Washington Day.

Commissioners recognize George Washington Day

Caldwell County Commissioners voted to recognize Feb. 22, 2026 as George Washington Day, celebrating the first president’s role in winning the Revolutionary War, founding the United States and establishing the precedent he set as the nation’s leader being elected for a finite term rather than reigning indefinitely as a king.

Besides serving as a general during the war for the colonies’ independence from the British, George Washington was elected as the first President of the United States, serving two terms of office from 1789 to 1797, and through his devotion, wisdom, and vision, became the exemplar of distinguished leadership for all future presidents, according to the proclamation penned at the request of the New Braunfels-based William Hightower Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Commissioners recognized Washington’s role in “preserving the United States’ democracy in today’s complex world.”

County to hold future workshop about data centers

Several area residents took the mic to voice their concerns about building data centers in Caldwell County.

Tract is developing a master-planned 3,000 acre data center campus — the Caldwell Valley Technology Park — north of Lockhart, designed for AI and cloud computing with over 4GW capacityAdditionally, Prime Data Centers is planning a separate 206-acre facility that is still in economic development negotiations with the county.

Residents voiced concerns about potential water usage and environmental pollution.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality — not the county — issues air quality and other environmental permits for data centers, focusing on emergency generator engines, onsite power generation, and water usage.

Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden told the gallery that commissioners would hold a workshop in the near future to discuss data centers, giving people a chance to discuss their concerns and hear feedback and learn more about the limited power counties have in stopping data centers and other similar developments from coming to fruition.
