The Caldwell County Sheriff's Office participated in the DEA's National Take Back program on Saturday, collecting more than 152 pounds of prescription medication.
The DEA organizes the semiannual event every year on the last Saturday of April and October, providing people a safe and convenient way to dispose of expired, unwanted, or unused prescription medication, including opioids and controlled substances.
The overall goal of the program is to prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction.
The sheriff's office thanked Corporal Verastegui, Deputy Dement, Deputy Garza and Evidence Technician Donna Hoehn for helping collect and process the medication.The office also thanked Kathy Rivera with Censor for helping advertise the event and distributing information about the program.
