Commissioners discuss adding private road to maintenance schedule

Privately owned Greenhouse Road could soon be added to the list of roads the county maintains following action taken by commissioners. Commissioners said the county would take over maintenance of the road contingent upon landowners with property along the road dedicating right-of-way to the county. Next steps include determining the costs associated with dedication, which includes surveying. After determining those costs, commissioners will determine whether the county will shoulder the costs or ask property owners who want to dedicate right of way to help pay for the surveys. Prior to commissioner action, multiple residents expressed safety concerns about the condition of the road during citizens’ comments.

Judge commends County Auditor, staff

County Auditor Danie Teltow told the court an audit of the Caldwell County Tax Assessor/Collector’s Office had been recently completed and that significant improvements had been made regarding cash handling, safeguarding revenue and office security. The auditor said she commended the tax assessor and collector for the office’s efforts. County Judge Hoppy Haden told the auditor her office was doing a good job auditing departments and that departments that were audited were doing well at correcting issues found during the audits. “That’s the whole point of having an auditor’s office,” he said. “We want to make sure we’re following procedures and doing things properly.

Commissioners address pay in County Clerk’s office

Administrative salaries in the Caldwell County clerk’s office will get an adjustment, with commissioners approving a $10,400 budget amendment to fund a slight pay increase for more senior level employees. This follows an earlier move to adjust salaries to bring the minimum salary for a full-time employee to $40,000. The budget amendment helps create distance between the minimum salary and the pay level of employees with seniority who were previously making only slightly more than that.
