October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Throughout the month, the HCWC, The Caldwell County District Attorney's Office and the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office participate in events and activities to raise awareness about domestic violence and the pain and suffering it causes. Last year, 216 Texans were killed in an intimate partner homicide, including 179 women and 37 men.
Last week, Caldwell County commissioners recognized the HCWC for the help and resources it provides to victims of domestic violence, approving a resolution commemorating the organization and October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Last year, the HCWC provided face to face services to more than 1,000 local victims of domestic violence and 7,438 days of shelter, with 179 of these from Caldwell County.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please get help. A list of resources is available on the Caldwell County website.
