Caldwell County Commissioners discussed the budget, tax rate, planned evacuation center, burn ban and more at their Sept. 10 regular meeting.

Commissioners adopt budget, tax rate
Caldwell County Commissioners adopted the FY 2024-2025 budget and set the 2024 tax rate.
The annual operating budget covers the cost of maintaining and improving more than 400 miles of roads, emergency management services, 9-1-1 emergency communications, public safety and law enforcement, elections, permitting and planning, pursuit of grants and numerous additional programs and benefits.
Commissioners approved a budget that includes $33,699,097.57 in planned general fund expenses for the period beginning Oct. 1, 2024 and ending Sept. 30, 2025 at their regular meeting on Sept.10 and adopted a total no-new-revenue tax rate of 43.91 cents per $100 property valuation.
Commissioners select contractor to build evacuation center
Caldwell County Commissioners on Tuesday, Sept. 10 voted unanimously to award the bid to build a new evacuation center and event center in Luling to Century Construction Group, Inc. Commissioners accepted the bid on the recommendation of Doucet and Associates, the county’s contracted engineering firm.
The bid — which came in at $17.6 million — was the lowest of four submitted to the county.
Groundbreaking on the project is anticipated in October.
- Issued a proclamation designating Sept. 21 as River Appreciation Day, recognizing local commitment to San Marcos River cleanup and preservation efforts

Designated the week of Sept. 23-27 as Falls Prevention Awareness Week.

Appointed Lee Rust to the Plum Creek Conservation District Board of Directors.

Voted to take over maintenance of Sandhill Road.

Lifted the burn ban.

Authorized the county to submit grant applications for the Rural Law Enforcement Grant Program to provide financial assistance to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office.
- Awarded the bid to LMC Corporation to remodel the Caldwell County Justice Center to accommodate a new 9-1-1 call center in Lockhart.
