Thanks to all who volunteered and participated in the tire collection event held over the weekend in Maxwell.

The event was made possible by a grant through the Capital Area Council of Governments. About 150 vehicles showed up and legally disposed of approximately 2,300 old tires -- tires that are no longer cluttering properties and pose no risk of being illegally dumped, filling nearly all four trailers brought to the site for collection.

The county thanks its 25 volunteers who helped with the collection, which included 15 volunteers from Pegasus Schools, Inc. and the Caldwell County Environmental Task Force. Special thanks also goes to Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative for donating $400 to feed our volunteers breakfast and lunch.
