Commissioners took action on the following items at their June 25 regular meeting:

  • Voted to leave the burn ban off at the recommendation of Caldwell County’s Office of Emergency Management. Keetch-Byram Drought Index numbers have climbed slightly since the last meeting, but the average for Caldwell County still remains hundreds of points below the threshold the metric for drought conditions. Residents are reminded to burn only natural brush.
  • Approved a proposal from Davis Kaufman PLLC to represent Caldwell County on legislative matters, including the upcoming legislative session that convenes on Jan. 12“They are the firm that is helping us get the bill drafted to get local authority for us to deal with large water consumers such as data centers,” Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden said, noting that he had recently appeared before the Texas House Committee on Natural Resources to ask for support for statutes that would place restrictions on data centers that are now only available through development agreements. “Thegenerally seemed open to it, but we have a lot of work to do with that and will need (the firm’s) assistance to get that through.”

  • Voted to leave all stop signs currently located in Prairie Lea in place.

  • Accepted a $32,500 grant from the Capital Area Council of Governments for counties affected by the July 4, 2025 disaster declaration related to flooding events in Central Texas. The money will be used to purchase emergency radios that will be handed out to seniors and people living with disabilities.
