Winter Weather Updates: Jan. 23-27
01/23/2026

Caldwell County will continue to provide important emergency and non-emergency notifications during this weekend's winter storms through a variety of channels.

Additionally, please make sure you have a reliable way to receive emergency notifications.

  • Enable WEA alerts in settings on your iPhone or Android device. Authorized public safety officials, including Caldwell County's Office of Emergency Management, send WEA alerts through FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) to participating wireless carriers, which then push the alerts to compatible mobile devices in the affected area. Here's how to do it.
  • Sign up to receive emergency notifications at Warncentraltexas.org, which is powered by CAPCOG.

One more thing: If it's icy, please stay off the roads. If you must travel anywhere, check current road conditions at drivetexas.org.

January 26

The Extreme Cold Warning for south central Texas has been extended through 9 a.m. Tuesday.

January 25

The Winter Storm Warning and Ice Storm Warning remain in effect through noon today. The Extreme Cold Warning will remain in effect through Monday morning.

TODAY'S GUIDANCE: Wintry precipitation has affected road conditions throughout much of Central Texas. Please help our first responders by staying off the roads today. If you absolutely must travel, check drivetexas.org first. Click on highlighted roadways on the map for more information about each one.

HEATER SAFETY: Are you using space heaters or fireplaces to keep warm? Please take steps to do so safely and avoid causing house fires.

  • Place space heaters on a level, hard, nonflammable surface like a ceramic tile floor.
  • Ensure furnaces, chimneys, fireplaces, and wood/coal stoves are inspected annually by a professional and cleaned as needed.
  • Keep heaters off rugs and carpets and away from bedding, drapes, and anything flammable.
  • Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets—never into extension cords or power strips.
  • Make sure all embers in the fireplace are fully extinguished before going to bed or leaving home.

January 24

The Winter Storm Warning for Caldwell County took effect at 3 a.m. and will now remain in effect through noon Sunday. The guidance is the same: Temperatures will likely fall and remain below freezing through the weekend over most of the Winter Storm Warning area, so there could be residual ice impacts on road surfaces even after the precipitation stops. Avoid unnecessary travel and take extra travel precautions if you do have to venture out.
