UPDATE (5 p.m.): The 1000-block of FM 672 (approximately 3 miles east of US 183) continues to be closed off during cleanup of a train derailment that happened earlier today. Traffic is being rerouted. Please avoid the area if you can ... there's a lot of heavy equipment moving through.
UPDATE (2 p.m.): FM 672 remains temporarily closed approximately three miles east of US 183 due to cleanup efforts following a train derailment. Lockhart ISD has been notified of the closure to allow it to adjust its bus routes this afternoon.
UPDATE (10:30 AM): FM 672 near address 1078 (3 miles east of US 183) has been temporarily shut down to thru traffic due to heavy machinery that is being moved to the area of the derailment.
UPDATE (9:30 AM): Here are some additional updates about the BNSF Railway train derailment that occurred east of E. Market Street at about 1 a.m. today:
- Seven total cars were affected.
- No injuries or damage to personal property have been reported. Public roadways and crossings continue to be unaffected.
- The train consisted of 80 railcars that included auto haulers, tank cars carrying corn syrup, and boxcars with lumber and raw corn.
- Assisting at the scene were Lockhart Police Department, Caldwell County Sheriff's Office - TX, and Caldwell County Office of Emergency Management.
-BNSF Railway crews are on-site and have begun cleanup and recovery operations.
- At this time, further questions should be referred to BNSF Railway.
