Winter Weather Updates: 1-21-25

JAN 21 (UPDATED at 3:30 PM):

 

The Winter Storm Warning has been lifted by the US National Weather Service Austin-San Antonio Texas. The cold weather advisory remains in effect until noon tomorrow. With low temperatures below 20 expected for much of the area tonight, it remains important to protect people, pipes, plants and pets.

 

Official snowfall for the Lockhart area was 1.5 inches and .5 inches for Luling, according to the NWS.

 

Road conditions throughout Central Texas should continue to improve as temperatures hover above freezing this afternoon, but you can check for conditions and closures at drivetexas.org before you get behind the wheel.

 

Caldwell County offices are closed today.

 

 

JAN 19: 

A Winter Storm Warning (Monday night through Tuesday) and Cold Weather Advisory (through Wednesday) are in effect for Caldwell County.

 

WINTER STORM WARNING: The I-35 corridor and points east can expect a snow and sleet mix with up to 2 inches possible. Up to a tenth of an inch of ice is also possible across the warning area.  Areas west of the I-35 corridor will experience advisory conditions with up to an inch of a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and ice. Consider delaying travel Monday night through Tuesday.

* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations around one
tenth of an inch. Isolated higher amounts possible, especially
farther to the east.

* WHERE...Along the I-35 corridor and points east

* WHEN...From 6 PM Monday to 6 PM CST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road
conditions. These hazardous conditions will impact the Tuesday
morning commute. Refreezing is expected Tuesday evening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions can
be obtained by calling 800-452-9292, or by going to drivetexas.org.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use
extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

 

COLD WEATHER ADVISORY:  Low temperatures each night in the 20s with northeast winds up to 15 mph will produce wind chill values in the teens. Remember to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants from cold weather. Also, follow safety tips when using space heaters.

Arctic air will spill into the region Saturday night. There is very high confidence of hard freezes occurring Sunday morning through Wednesday morning. Be prepared to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants from cold weather.

 

Confidence is increasing that a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow may occur across portions of south-central Texas Monday night into Tuesday morning. There is currently a 20-50% chance of 1/2" of snow or more across much of the area and a 20-40% chance of freezing rain across southern areas. Exact details in amounts and impacts remain uncertain.
